THE MĀLIE SCHOLARSHIP
In 1987, Nathan convinced Larry and ʻEkolu that they should start a scholarship fund to send children to Pūnana Leo Preschool. At one of their Christmas concerts, they donated $300 to this effort and this was matched by a an sitting in the audience - Buddy McGuire. Over the years, the scholarship has expanded to include other categories. In the last few years, funds have been raised through donations for an ʻukulele and case made and donated by a committed local island couple.
Students and all activities must perpetuate the Hawaiian culture and/or the Hawaiian language. All applicants are required to submit their application, along with two letters of recommendation, for consideration.

Hosted by Hawaiian Hula International (www.facebook.com/hawaiian.hula.international) and Halau Ka Lei Kukui Hiʻilani - Mainland USA Extension led by Auntie Kahanoa Floresca (www.halaukaleikukuihiilani-sd.com)
We are honored and privileged to announce all hula workshops at this event will be taught by the esteemed Kumu Hula Leihi‘ilani Kirkpatrick (Kumu Lei) with a wealth of experience and knowledge:
* Kumu Hula (hula teacher) through traditional 'uniki rites
* Recognized Hawaiiana Educator
* Recognized Lei Judge
* Kumu Huaka‘i (excursion teacher) for Kaua'i Maoli
* Ordained Kahu (minister) licensed by the State of Hawai‘i.
* Former Kahua (mentor) for the Department of Education and Kamehameha Schools
Kumu Hula Leihiʻilani Kirkpatrick started dancing hula in the 1950s with her ʻohana. She has been taught by several wonderful hula teachers/masters but has been most impacted by Uncle Joe Kahaulelio, Aunty Puamohala Kaholokula, and Lehua Hula Kawaikapuokalani Hewett. She began dancing professionally in 1968 and has continued to grow in hula ever since, having graduated through traditional ‘uniki rites with Lehua Hula Kawaikapuokalani Hewett. With hula gaining popularity worldwide, students from Singapore, Japan, Europe and the mainland USA have been and are regularly coming to study with Kumu Lei on Kauaʻi.

About Hawaiian Hula International
and Hula Workshops
The humble establishment of Hawaiian Hula International (HHI) is inspired by the living legacies of Hawaiiana, hula and ho‘ōla of Kumu Hula Leihi‘ilani Kirkpatrick (Kumu Lei) and Lehua Kawaikapuokalani Hewett (Lehua). HHI was founded by Auntie Kahānoa Floresca with help from her hula haumana to honor these legacies and to increase their ability to support and unite the Hawaiian community, Kumu Hula and hula people. Auntie Kahānoa Floresca serves as the Alaka‘i (leader) of Kumu Hula Leihi‘ilani Kirkpatrick’s Hālau Ka Lei Kukui Hi‘ilani – Mainland USA Extension established in 2014. Auntie Kahānoa Floresca immediately launched the introduction of her unique hula lineage through the inaugural 2015 Hawaiian Hula Workshops by Kumu Hula Leihi’ilani Kirkpatrick.
The mission, goal and vision of HHI is reflective of that of her Kumu Hula and the hālau (www.halaukaleikukuihiilani.wordpress.com):
• Its mission is “Caring for the Hula - Mind, Body, Soul + Spirit” through public education, training, scholarships, products and services locally, nationally ad internationally.
• Its goal is to provide all levels of education and training to preserve and perpetuate the cultural integrity of Hawaiian hula, traditions and history, and to honor and glorify Ke Akua (God) in all He has given the Hawaiian people.
• Its vision is to provide events for all races and sectors of hula dancers to establish lōkahi (unity) and effective, loving communication through the practice of Biblical and Hawaiian values and the common purpose of SHARING ALOHA and CARING FOR THE HULA.
All events and proceeds are intended
• to help establish Hawaiian Hula International as a non-profit organization to accomplish its mission, goals and vision locally, nationally and internationally, and
• to establish funding and scholarships for Hawaiian Hula Workshops and hālau education of children with financial need and families of Hawaiian decent, first for members of Hālau Ka Lei Kukui Hi‘ilani – Mainland USA Extension, then nationally and internationally.
